07 Dec 2011

Fosters have teamed up with local Fenland charity FACET (Fenland Area Community Enterprise Trust) who provide social care and training to adults aged 16+ with learning and other disabilities. Around 95 students attend FACET’s facility each week (50 students on any given day), mainly from March, Chatteris, Wisbech and surrounding areas.
Fosters will be working on a variety of initiatives including:
-
Providing cost only repairs to FACET facilities
-
Provision of skills appreciation workshops
-
Upgrading the FACET community kitchen
-
Donating waste furniture for resale by FACET and waste wood (generated by Fosters) for use in FACET woodworking shop
-
Plans to purchase goods produced by FACET for donation to other community projects
Many other initiatives are being discussed for the future.
Steven Foster, Director at Fosters said:
“As a local business, we have an on going commitment to improve the communities in which we work. We have, and continue to provide, various forms of assistance to worthy causes to benefit local people. Joining up with a FACET, who do such great work, will enable us to help a number of people and help FACET create a legacy we can all be proud of”.
Linda Ingram, FACET’s CEO said:
“We are delighted to have been presented with this opportunity. We feel that by working more closely with local businesses such as Fosters, we can provide funding and assistance for the charity, as well as providing a benefit to the companies that work with us. We operate a house clearance service across the Fenland area, and pride ourselves in the fact that we can turn almost all donated goods into cash which then is re-invested into our charity, and if this helps local businesses in return by taking some of their unwanted items or stock, then we all benefit, which is the overall aim”.
The two organisations plan to work together with the desired effect of carrying out improvements to the local community.
FACET has worked with Fenland District Council on their Street Pride project, Fenland in Bloom, as well as having undertaken gardening work and woodwork projects for other local businesses and local residents. FACET also provide most of the hanging baskets for March Town Centre, as well as sourcing plants for the Oliver Cromwell Hotel. FACET have gained a considerable amount of experience, and have well trained staff on hand to support their students, whilst they undertake work experience or voluntary work placements.
